Call for papers

The International Conference on Space and Sustainable Development (CEDS 2026) has been conceived as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas on the challenges and opportunities arising from space activities, alongside the search for alternative measures to enable their sustainable use.

With this objective in mind, the conference will address technological and scientific areas, as well as industrial development and national strategies, including the collaborative and legal frameworks necessary for the use of space in a globalised world.

In this context, we invite researchers, academics and professionals from space agencies, government bodies and space research centres in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as from other regions, who work in these fields, to present their studies and proposals at this Conference, with a view to helping identify strategies and courses of action to advance space activities and their contribution to global development.

1. Spatial development: opportunities and challenges

Strategic advantages for the development of space activities and planetary technology, taking into account new global scenarios and the associated scientific challenges.
The role of industry, academia and government in strengthening spatial development policies.
Spatial strategies and policies aimed at sustainable development, social inclusion and socio-economic development.

2. Promoting the development of space science and technology

In a knowledge-based society, value creation and the international standing of nations are increasingly shaped by their level of development and investment in science and technology. In this context, the following issues are considered particularly relevant:

Development of related sciences, such as Physics, Data Science, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics and Space Biology.
Technological development in key areas such as telecommunications, automatic control, geomatics and robotics.
Human capital development and collaboration schemes between academia and industry.

3. Innovation and industrial development in the space sector

The space economy offers significant opportunities to foster new industrial and technological developments across countries and regions. Key areas of interest include:

Geoprocessing and Earth observation.
Nanosatellites and small-scale space systems.
Space sensors and instrumentation.
Robotics applied to space.
Data Science and Artificial Intelligence applied to space systems.
New space and new space-based economies driven by the private sector.

4. Space as the Common Heritage of Humanity

In light of the global challenges associated with the use of space, this theme seeks to promote analysis and discussion on legal frameworks, international cooperation, and space sustainability. Suggested topics include:

Participation in international agreements and space governance.
International regulations and national legislation relating to space matters.
Bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Emerging issues such as a clean and quiet space, space resources and orbital sustainability.

Guidelines for authors

1. Languages

The official languages of the conference are English, Spanish and Portuguese.

2. Types of contributions

Proposals must relate to the topics described above and may be based on experiences, studies, ongoing research, methodological or technical proposals, or institutional or public policy initiatives.

Also, proposals must be no longer than 7 pages, excluding figures, tables and references.

3. Evaluation of Proposals

Las propuestas serán evaluadas por el Comité Científico de la conferencia, considerando criterios como pertinencia temática, claridad de la propuesta, contribución técnica o conceptual, originalidad y relevancia para el desarrollo sostenible de las actividades espaciales. El Comité Científico podrá solicitar ajustes menores previo a la aceptación definitiva de la propuesta.

4. Presentation Format

Accepted proposals may be considered for an oral presentation or a poster presentation, depending on the assessment by the Scientific Committee and the organisation of the technical programme.

5. Proposal Submission Guidelines

Proposals must be submitted in PDF format.
Paper size: A4.
Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides.
Font: Times New Roman, size 11 pt., single line spacing and justified text.
The pages must be numbered.
Figures and tables must be numbered and include a title or description.
The organisers will provide official templates in Word and LaTeX formats to assist with the preparation of proposals.

The suggested structure may be adapted to suit the nature and focus of each proposal. The abstract must be no more than 250 words and include between 3 and 5 keywords.

8. Originality

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the proposals submitted are original works and that they have the necessary authorisations for their presentation and dissemination. Furthermore, authors are responsible for the content submitted and for the appropriate use of copyrighted material.
